The memory of the holy father of our Savinus, bishop of Cyprus

This monk was a native of Phoenicia [Phoenicia was situated along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea between Palestine and the ancient Syrian state. The beginning of Christianity in Phoenicia dates from the time of the Apostles.] and was born in the city of Lycia, where he was baptized and received the monastic monasticism of St. Epiphanius [Memory of St. Epiphanius is celebrated on the same day]. When God glorified Epiphanius, the people of Lycia sent after him a man who was known to them to make him bishop of their city.

[The island of Cyprus is in the Mediterranean Sea near the coast of ancient Phoenicia, where Christianity was introduced by the holy apostle Paul on his first missionary journey.]

After Epiphanius' death, Savinus became his successor, taking the episcopal chair in the same city of Constantia, where he was bishop and Epiphanius. After performing many memorable miracles, protecting his church from heretics and living a pious life, Savinus retired to the Lord.
